Make it in Macarthur

Macroc launched the Make it in Macarthur Website on June 28, 2006. This website is the main regional repository for information, including economic and commercial information to promote growth and expansion of business in Macarthur.

The Make it in Macarthur Website is also the platform for promoting the Macarthur brand which has been developed by a group of prominent business people including:

  • Paul Wakeling - Former Managing Director of Paul Wakeling Motor Group
  • Steve Muter - Former Chief Executive Officer of Campbelltown Catholic Club
  • Phil Giblin - Group Program Director C91.3 FM

The branding initiative arose from the Economic Development Plan for Macarthur prepared from Federal Government funding under the Sustainable Regions Program. The Plan noted that negative perceptions were a major drawback towards attracting new business and creating employment and wealth in the region. Hence, a marketing campaign entitled - 'Put Macarthur on the Map'- was recommended, along with a couple of other measures aimed at promoting new enterprises and supporting business capabilities.

The Make it in Macarthur website is the home of the Macarthur brand. The brand is underpinned by a number of key values, such as:

  • Entrepreneurship
  • Can - do positive attitude
  • Performance excellence
  • Inclusiveness

The website hosts the 90 second promotional film on Macarthur, but a wide range of marketing material has been collated in a 'Business Kit' to brand the region, promoting it as a coveted place to live, work and operate a business. Among the marketing collateral is a 6-minute DVD, profiles for Camden, Campbelltown and Wollondilly local government areas, business testimonials and a regional map of major employment centres and stock of employment land.

The Business Kit can be obtained by contacting:

Imam Ali,
Economic Development Officer Macroc
Telephone: (02) 4645 4965

Businesses are encouraged to promote the Make it in Macarthur brand in their communications and marketing campaigns. In this way, the brand penetration will increase which will help promote the Macarthur region, the birthplace of nations wealth, not only internally but also externally to our suppliers and customers. The brand can easily be downloaded and used once the terms and conditions of its use have been approved. The process is simple and can be completed on line at Make it in Macarthur website. The assistance of MACROC's Economic Development Officer is available and business are encouraged to contact Imam Ali to find out how they could embrace the brand and collectively market the region along with their products and services.

The Make it in Macarthur brand is also highly relevant to the non-business sector. There are many ordinary citizens who are making it in Macarthur. The rich heritage of this region is a testament to many who had made it in Macarthur. Hence, it will be actively promoted in schools, service clubs, sporting bodies and non-government organisations.

At the Tourism in Macarthur Forum held on May 10 2006 the brand was first unveiled to some 55 tourism operators from the region. It was positively received. Moreover, MACROC participated in the National Manufacturing Week held at the Darling Harbour Exhibition and Convention Centre in Sydney between 30 May and 2 June, where the manufacturing potential of the Macarthur region was demonstrated under the theme 'Make it in Macarthur'.

In addition, the MACROC Economic Development Officer will engage businesses and community organisation on an ongoing basis, including the media to push the brand out in the community and the corporate sectors.

The Make it in Macarthur website is expected to be the business portal for the region. When fully developed, it will provide a facility for Macarthur-based companies to advertise their products and services and search for business opportunities that will be listed there in.

It will also be the repository of regional information as well as a channel for distribution of the brand. As stated at the outset, the website will have information that will enable businesses to find source of assistance provided by the State and the Federal governments and identify potential suppliers/buyers of goods and services.
